His presentation included a proposed 12,000-unit development and a mock Daily News front page showing Trump beneath the headline, “Trump to City: Let’s Build.”

The mayor has presented the effort as a chance for major federal involvement in housing, potentially the largest such investment in five decades. An Unusual Presidential Visit

Trump’s trip to Gracie Mansion will be a rare presidential visit to the residence. The last president documented as visiting was Ronald Reagan, who met Mayor Ed Koch there and presented a ceremonial check connected to a Manhattan infrastructure project.

The mansion has hosted other presidents only occasionally. John F. Kennedy visited in 1962 to speak about medical care before an audience of U.S. mayors. Jimmy Carter and first lady Rosalynn Carter stayed overnight in 1978 while Carter was in the city for official events, including a City Hall bill-signing ceremony with Koch.

The timing also places the meeting within a politically charged week for New York. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to address the United Nations on Thursday. Mamdani, a forceful critic of the Israeli government, has said he does not intend to join demonstrations planned in opposition to Netanyahu’s appearance.
