The Sequence of Events

Louay Adli, the homeowner, described how the group arrived early in the afternoon and immediately began pelting his house with rocks. He reached for his phone to contact Israeli police, but by the time he spoke, the crowd had grown to what he estimated at sixty or seventy individuals. They encircled the property on every side and sustained the stone-throwing for the full duration of the standoff.

“They surrounded us from all sides and threw stones at all of us. This went on for a whole hour until the army came from in front of the house, while the settlers were from behind.”

Adli recounted that soldiers eventually appeared on one side of the structure while the settlers continued their assault from the opposite flank. He said the military observed the situation without intervening before ultimately deploying tear gas toward the home. With the interior filling with smoke and the occupants unable to breathe, Adli and six others fled to the rooftop, trapped between the gas and the settlers below.

“We could not breathe inside. We were suffocating and the army had us trapped with the settlers.”

Following the dispersal, Israeli security forces detained Adli, blindfolded him, and issued a verbal warning instructing him not to re-enter his own property.

The Israel Defense Forces, in a joint statement issued alongside border police, characterized its intervention as the use of “proportionate force” directed at a Palestinian resident it accused of resisting and hurling stones. The same statement conceded that “dozens of rioters” had barricaded themselves inside the Palestinian home while residents were also present, and noted that the group was subsequently “dispersed using various means.” No explanation was offered for why none of those dozens were taken into custody.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed in a separate statement that three vehicles used during the incursion had been confiscated. The IDF added that security forces were working “to locate those involved and hold them accountable in accordance with the law,” yet as of Sunday afternoon no arrests had been publicly announced. An Israeli police spokesman told reporters the investigation remained open and that additional evidence was being collected.

President Isaac Herzog delivered the harshest official condemnation, calling the Qusra episode a “direct and flagrant defiance of the laws and values of the State of Israel” and describing it as another entry in “a disturbing sequence of events that casts a stain on Israel’s image and demands firm and decisive action.”

A Pattern Around Nablus

Qusra sits just outside the city of Nablus, and residents of surrounding villages have endured repeated settler sieges over the past several months. In many cases, settlers have ignored explicit orders from authorities to vacate the area and have attempted to compel Palestinian families — some of whom hold American citizenship — to abandon their homes. Ayed Jafry, a Palestinian activist who works in the Nablus corridor including Qusra and the neighboring town of Jalud, told reporters that the villages ringing the city face a persistent threat of settler raids and that, frequently, the military coordinates with settlers rather than restraining them.

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee labeled the Qusra violence a “horrific act of terror meant to intimidate and harass,” underscoring the diplomatic sensitivity the incident carries for Washington’s relationship with its closest regional ally.

Parallel Attack on a News Crew in Jalud

On the same Saturday, a separate incident in the West Bank town of Jalud saw masked settlers assault a television news team while it was interviewing a Palestinian woman whose family had been driven from its home by settlers. Aida Ahmed Abdullah spoke to the crew about the forced displacement. Mid-interview, masked men arrived by vehicle and struck the reporters with sticks.

“They jumped out, beat us, then jumped back in the car,” said correspondent Matt Bradley, who received treatment at a nearby clinic afterward.

The Foreign Press Association issued a statement condemning the assault and demanding a formal investigation, noting: “This is not an isolated incident — it is part of a recurring pattern of violence against members of the press and Palestinian civilians.”
