The latest filings follow a five-day preliminary hearing held in July, during which the state presented what it called “overwhelming” evidence while defense counsel attempted to cast doubt on forensic conclusions and analyst interpretations.

Judge Tony Graf has set September 1 as the deadline for his ruling on whether the case proceeds to trial.
