Savannah Guthrie says family is ‘in agony’ in first interview since her mother’s disappearance

Family’s search for Nancy Guthrie intensifies

Seven weeks into the search for Nancy Guthrie, her daughter Savannah has shared her family’s anguish in a heartfelt conversation with Hoda Kotb. During a preview of the interview aired Wednesday, she expressed deep distress, stating, “Someone must take the correct action. We’re enduring immense pain, and it feels unbearable.”

“And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. It is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now,” Savannah said, reflecting on the sleepless nights she spends envisioning her mother’s plight.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home on February 1. According to authorities, she was last seen the night prior after having dinner at her daughter Annie Guthrie’s residence. Her family reported her missing following her absence from a virtual church service at a friend’s home.

Suspect identified through security footage

As the investigation continues, law enforcement released video footage of a suspect, depicting a masked, armed individual tampering with a security camera near the Guthrie family home. The FBI is seeking a male between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build, who was seen wearing a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack.

The doorbell camera at the residence disconnected at 1:47 a.m. on February 1, as noted in a timeline provided by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Forensic analysis revealed traces of Nancy’s blood on the porch of her home. Investigators are also exploring genetic genealogy to identify unknown DNA samples collected from inside the property.

“We feel them, and we continue to believe that she feels them, too,” the siblings said, expressing gratitude for the prayers offered by the community.

The Guthrie family has pledged a $1 million reward for Nancy’s safe return, while the FBI is offering $50,000 for tips leading to her recovery or the arrest of those involved. Despite the emotional toll, Savannah Guthrie has announced her intent to return to the TODAY show, though she remains prioritizing her family’s well-being and the search for her mother.
