Eamonn Holmes recovering in hospital after stroke
Eamonn Holmes Hospitalized Following Stroke
GB News confirmed that broadcaster Eamonn Holmes is currently receiving treatment in a hospital after experiencing a stroke. The incident occurred last week, with the channel stating that the condition was later verified. Holmes is reportedly in stable condition, and the team at GB News has expressed hope for a swift recovery.
Known for his extensive career in television, Holmes has served as a presenter on multiple platforms, including Sky News and ITV. He joined GB News in 2022, co-hosting its morning show with Ellie Costello. For the upcoming week, fellow presenter Alex Armstrong will temporarily take his place.
“Eamonn is a cherished part of the GB News family,” said CEO Angelos Frangopoulos.
Holmes, 66, has faced various health challenges over the years. These include spinal surgery, a double hip replacement, and difficulties with mobility, such as using a scooter. His professional journey began in Northern Ireland, where he worked at UTV’s Good Evening Ulster before transitioning to GMTV in 1993.
Throughout his career, he also hosted Sky News’s Sunrise programme and co-led ITV’s This Morning alongside Ruth Langsford, whom he married in 2010. In 2024, it was announced that their marriage had ended, and they were pursuing divorce.
A stroke, as defined by the NHS, occurs when blood flow to a section of the brain is interrupted. Common signs include facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech impairments. Immediate medical attention is vital when these symptoms appear.
Holmes was honored with an OBE in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List for his contributions to broadcasting. Despite recent health setbacks, he remains a respected figure in the industry, with colleagues continuing to support his recovery.
