SFRS Area Commander David Dourley provided an update on the ongoing efforts. “Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene where firefighters are working to extinguish a fire affecting an area of grass,” he explained. The commander emphasized that crews would remain on site throughout the day until the situation was fully under control.
“Our crews remain on scene this morning having worked tirelessly throughout the night fighting the fire. Operations will continue today until the fire is fully extinguished,” Dourley said. “There are no reported casualties.”
Historic landmark faces another wildfire challenge
Arthur’s Seat stands as one of Edinburgh’s most recognizable features, rising 251 meters above sea level according to the Scottish tourism board. This dormant volcano has welcomed visitors for centuries and offers panoramic views of Scotland’s capital city. The site holds significant historical importance, featuring a large fort that dates back approximately 2,000 years alongside St. Anthony’s Chapel, a charming 15th-century ruin.
The location sits within Holyrood Park, placing it in close proximity to both the Scottish Parliament building and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which serves as King Charles’s official residence in Edinburgh. This central positioning makes the area particularly valuable for both tourism and local communities.
Wildfire incidents at Arthur’s Seat are not unprecedented. Firefighters have responded to multiple blazes at this location in recent years, including incidents in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2025. The recurrence of fires at this site highlights the ongoing challenge of managing vegetation in urban green spaces during dry periods.
Meanwhile, Scottish emergency services are dealing with concurrent wildfire activity elsewhere in the country. Dozens of firefighters have been battling a separate fire in the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands over the past five days, according to a statement from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
