In a message published on Friday, Handala, the pro-Iranian and pro-Palestinian hacking group, stated: ‘Kash Patel, the current FBI director, who previously had his name proudly displayed at the agency’s headquarters, is now listed among those whose accounts have been compromised.’

The bureau confirmed awareness of cyber actors attempting to access Director Patel’s personal email data and stated that measures were implemented to address any emerging threats from this incident.

The disclosed data is historical and does not pertain to any classified governmental information.

A DOJ representative informed Reuters that the released content seemed genuine.

Among the leaked images was a photograph of Mr Patel beside a vintage sports car and another capturing him with a cigar in hand.

The majority of the shared files pertained to his prior personal ventures and business dealings, prior to his ascension as FBI director.

The timing of the breach remains uncertain, though the FBI notified Patel in December 2024 of his inclusion in an Iranian cyber operation.
