Epstein Deposition Videos Reveal Tense Exchanges with Lawmakers, Clinton’s Hot Tub Photo Defense
The House Oversight Committee unveiled video recordings of private depositions involving former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, conducted last week as part of its probe into Jeffrey Epstein. Both figures endured approximately four and a half hours of questioning from members of the Democratic and Republican parties in their hometown of Chappaqua, New York.
These depositions emerged after weeks of political and legal maneuvering, during which the Clintons had initially refused to testify. Facing potential criminal charges for congressional contempt, the former president and his wife eventually agreed to appear in person. Despite the lengthy sessions, the proceedings leaned more on political theatrics than new revelations.
Hillary Clinton’s testimony was marked by assertive exchanges, particularly with Republican lawmakers. She frequently raised her voice, accusing them of seeking political advantage rather than genuine inquiry. In contrast, Bill Clinton maintained a calmer presence, though his hands trembled visibly. He claimed to have no awareness of Epstein’s crimes, describing their relationship as a “brief acquaintance.”
Hot Tub Photo Sparks Debate
During Bill Clinton’s deposition, a key moment arose when he was asked about a photo showing him in a hot tub with a woman whose face was blurred. Clinton insisted the image depicted a casual encounter, stating he “sat in the hot tub for five minutes or whatever it was” before retiring for the night. When pressed about sexual activity, he denied it, saying, “I don’t know who that is.”
“I got up and went to bed,” Clinton told Republican Rep. Nick Langworthy of New York.
Clinton further claimed the photo was taken during a trip to Brunei, where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference took place in 2000. He noted that the sultan of Brunei encouraged him to use the pool facilities. A separate image, showing a larger pool area, was also presented to contextualize the scene.
Clinton’s Birthday Letter and Pizzagate Tensions
Bill Clinton acknowledged writing a 2003 birthday letter for Epstein, which was featured in an album linked to the disgraced financier. While he downplayed the gesture, the letter also bore his name. Trump, however, disputed authoring the document and has taken legal action against the Wall Street Journal for its coverage of the issue.
Hillary Clinton faced pointed questions from Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, who pressed her on photos of Bill Clinton with women and Epstein. Mace accused Clinton of withholding opinions on the images, while the former secretary of state labeled the inquiries as “innuendo.” When Mace persisted, Clinton retorted, “I don’t find any of your questions to be relevant to the investigation.”
“I don’t find any of your questions to be relevant to the investigation,” she said.
The depositions highlighted ongoing tensions over the Clintons’ connections to Epstein, including the “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory. Clinton’s responses underscored her focus on specific allegations, while her husband’s testimony centered on his personal accounts and the context of their interactions with Epstein’s associates.
