NYPD officer dies in medical episode while deployed to Kuwait in Iran war

NYPD Officer Passes Away During Deployment in Kuwait Amid Iran Conflict
A New York City police officer has passed away while serving in Kuwait as part of the Iran conflict efforts, city and state officials confirmed. The incident occurred at Camp Buehring, where Major Sorffly Davius succumbed to a medical episode, according to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. She highlighted Davius as a “true Citizen Soldier” and a steadfast family man, emphasizing his dedication to both his wife and children.
Davius, who had previously served in the U.S. Army National Guard within the 42nd Infantry Division, achieved the rank of major during his military tenure, the NYPD stated in a social media post. His career with the NYPD began in 2014, initially stationed at the 79th Precinct. The department expressed its condolences, stating, “Today, and always, we keep his family in our thoughts and prayers. May we never forget Officer Davius’ sacrifice and may his memory be a blessing.”
“His life is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by our National Guard members, who balance their roles as citizens, first responders, and soldiers,” Hochul added.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch honored Davius in a statement released Saturday, noting, “His career was defined by service — to his country and to New York City.”
As part of the broader military operation, seven U.S. service members have died in the coalition’s campaign against Iran. Retaliatory strikes on U.S. bases in the Middle East have intensified the conflict. Six of these fatalities occurred in Kuwait, while a seventh service member passed away Saturday evening from injuries sustained during a March 1 attack on U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia, according to U.S. Central Command.
NBC News has contacted the National Guard and U.S. Central Command for additional remarks. Marlene Lenthang, a breaking news reporter for NBC News Digital, reported the story.
