Charmain Speirs, a 40-year-old woman, encountered Eric Adusah, a Ghanaian prophet, in 2014. For years, she had been active in the rapidly growing Pentecostal movement, a Christian denomination known for its energetic practices. Despite finding spiritual fulfillment, she felt something was lacking in her life. Her friend Anne-Marie shared,
“She’d grown weary of ordinary men. She craved a man of God, someone who could deliver on the promises of faith.”
Charmain later revealed,
“I’ve met someone, a famous preacher,”
marking the beginning of her relationship with Adusah, the head pastor of Global Light Revival Church.
Charmain’s Background
Charmain grew up in Arbroath, a coastal fishing town in Scotland, during the 1970s and 1980s. Her parents, Linda and Peter, worked as a cleaner and a plumber, respectively. Friends describe her as a vibrant social figure, often drawing others into her circle. At 19, she relocated to Glasgow, working in various roles across shops, restaurants, and bars. Linsey, a close companion, notes that Charmain experienced tumultuous relationships, even briefly seeking refuge in a women’s shelter. Her family endured hardship too, including the loss of a brother in a car accident and her youngest sibling’s heroin addiction.
The Prophetic Union
By her early thirties, Charmain moved to Swansea to pursue a new life and study photojournalism. In 2007, she welcomed a son named Isaac, which marked a turning point in her journey. Struggling with postnatal depression, she found solace in religion, joining Liberty Church. Adusah, based in London, led another Pentecostal congregation. Their connection began through a Christian dating platform, culminating in an engagement within weeks. Charmain’s mother, Linda Speirs, was surprised when her daughter informed her of the marriage, as the relationship had been kept secret.
A Life Cut Short
Charmain’s marriage to Adusah, the self-proclaimed prophet, brought her into the spotlight. Colleagues and church members dubbed her the “first lady” of the congregation. However, her friend Anne-Marie shared a contrasting view, stating,
“She said, ‘He doesn’t show me any love. There’s no love, there’s no passion.'”
After marrying in September 2014, Charmain returned to Arbroath to visit her mother, revealing marital tensions and her plans to move back. Yet, she boarded a bus to London and flew to Ghana before her untimely death.
The Prophet’s Story
Police records indicate Adusah was the last person to see Charmain alive. In an interview with the BBC, he recounted lunch with her and a pool visit, followed by an evening spent together. He claimed to have left the hotel after midnight for a meeting in Accra before departing for the UK. A hotel worker, whose name is withheld, challenged this account, asserting,

The incident, still shrouded in mystery, has sparked renewed scrutiny over a decade later.
