Football Rally in Peru Results in Fatality and Multiple Injuries

During a tense confrontation at Alejandro Villanueva Stadium in Lima, Peru, before a derby match between Alianza Lima and Universitario de Deportes, a sudden incident caused one spectator’s death and left over 40 people injured. The event unfolded as hundreds of fans gathered in support of the home team, their chants echoing through the venue.

Peruvian Health Minister Juan Carlos Velasco Guerrero confirmed the death, stating that 47 individuals were treated for injuries, with three in critical condition. “This incident has shaken our community,” he said, addressing media at a Lima hospital.

Fire Chief Marcos Pajuelo later clarified that the southern stands had not suffered structural collapse. “No walls or sections fell into the pit,” he explained, contradicting earlier reports of a partial collapse. Despite the disruption, the football league announced that the match would go ahead as planned.
